Conservative Surgery and Radiation Therapy in the Treatment of Stage I and II Breast Cancer

Abstract
Between 1985 and 1991, fourteen women with stage I and II breast cancers were treated with conservative surgery and radiotherapy at the Soonchunhyang University Hospital. Median follow up was 40 months with a range of 3~78 months. All patients
had
local
excision of the primary tumor with wide margin and received 4500~5040 cGy to the breast; most patients were given a photon beam boost of 1000~2000cGy to the tumor bed. None of the fourteen patients suffered a breast recurrence. One patient died
of
distant metastasis. Cosmetic results were good to excellent in 73 per cont. Two patients experienced significant complications of fibrosis and telangiectasia. Patient with stage I and II breast cancer can be adequately treated with
breast-conserving
